If you are interested in attending Michael Buckingham's session on "Church Marketing: Being Creative in a World of Blah", then join us for Church + Design + Lunch on Thursday, June 25th. We are still working on the details but we want to know how many people might be interested in joining us so we can fine-tune a few things and make sure reservations are made.

1. Michael Buckingham
2. Darcy Hinrichs

My team would be interested. There are three of us from our church's design department coming to HOW.

Please add me. I design stuff for our church all the time, although that's not mostly what I do.

Can I go to the lunch if I do not attend the class? I am so torn right now between 3 classes in that block!

Same question/dilemma....

I also do things for churches on the side.

You guys are more than welcome to join us- you don't have to attend the session to join us for lunch! The more the merrier, right?! I just want to make sure that we can get reservations made to take care of however many of us that will show up. I am going to work on getting that taken care of over the weekend, so hopefully I'll have a good estimate for headcount to give them!

I actually haven't done anything for our church as of yet, but I offered my services and they are really interested in bringing me on board to do some fun and cool things. I just watched a VBS program last night and was amazed at how cool it was. It was very hip so the older kids were even more enthusiastic, I think. I was impressed!

A different session? Did I not mention that I am going to be talking about ninjas? NINJAS!

I kid...but seriously there will be ninja talk.

Honestly, it is a TOUGH block...there are a lot of those sessions that I would like to catch to. But absolutely come out to lunch even if you decide to sit in an ninja-less session. :)

Oh, and just to sweeten the pot...I will be giving out some Church Marketing Sucks t-shirts and yes, one lucky attendee will go home with their very own pocket ninja!

Design Ninjas! They pop-out and attack when ever a designer uses Papyrus typeface in a layout! No seriously, try I dare you, use that horrid font— but don't say I didn't warn you!
=========

See you all in the Church Marketing session and at lunch, be sure to say hello!

A few names to add from twitter:

@benjordan
@katieobriendc

Anyone have a suggestion for a good lunch spot close to the conference center?

throck -> RE: Church + Design + Lunch (6/19/2009 4:46:26 PM)

Count me in! for the lunch! and the session! I am so cheap! offer me a t-shirt and I will do almost anything! A chance at a ninja. Oh my! See you soon!

I signed up for another lesson during my registration. It wont be a problem to attend this session will it? I am afraid there will be hall monitors making sure we are in our proper sessions!

Thanks
Throck

holycowcreative -> RE: Church + Design + Lunch (6/22/2009 8:25:53 AM)

Wow, this looks like a great group. We'll probably get a number people to join us from the session as well.

So now we need a good spot, close to the conference center. Anyone have a suggestion, recommendation? I'm not at all familiar with the area, I'll see what I can do about looking for a site, but let's hear it, where should we go? Hopefully it won't be like my wife and my conversation:

"So where do you want to go?"

"Oh, it doesn't matter to me, wherever you pick is great."

"Really, nothing sounds good?"

"Nope, I'm good for anything."

"Ok, how about XYZ?"

"Oooh. No not there."

"ABC?"

"MMmmm...no I just ate there last week."

"Then where do you want to go?"

"I don't care...you pick."

...I actually had some friends that would go home hungry after not finding a spot.

darcylea -> RE: Church + Design + Lunch (6/22/2009 9:07:01 AM)

Hey there! I was checking out a few places but found that there are a lot that seem to be high-$$$. (I might not be looking in the right place....) BUT I did find this place called Iron Cactus that isn't far from the convention center and they look like they might be able to accommodate us. I did email them to see if they would be able to accommodate about 20 of us (I probably should have said more...maybe) and am waiting to hear back. I figured this close to conference, even if there were other suggestions and ideas, or whatever, at least it's something to roll with.

holycowcreative -> RE: Church + Design + Lunch (6/22/2009 9:43:41 AM)

That's the second recommendation I've had for the Iron Cactus...so unless we hear some other suggestions I think that's the spot!

Thanks for setting all this up!

Looks like Iron Cactus will BE the spot! As soon as we iron out some of the details with them, we'll post info for those planning on joining us! Stay tuned.....

Okay- wanting some input from those interested in attending:

We can reserve a room up to 30 people but there is a minimum of $200 (before taxes and gratuities) in order to do so. Based on prices of their menu items, I think it would be safe to say that most people would end up spending about $20 and so I really don't think that it would be an issue. However, if there are more than 20 people, it looks as though they would prefer us to select from a buffet menu that they have rather than ordering individually. (And it would make it easier on them vs. separating bills). So I wanted to get opinions on this before calling and making the official reservation.

Below are the options that we have for the buffets they offer. The prices quoted are per guest and includes chips & salsa and beverages (soda, ice tea, coffee...) They do not include tax or gratuities, which would be extra. My goal is to try and keep it around $20 per person, including tax and gratuities. But it will depend on what everyone wants.

Enchilada Buffet:
•Chile Con Queso
•Mexican rice and charro beans
•Choose three of the following:
Cheese enchiladas- topped with ranchero sauce
Chicken enchiladas- topped with sour cream sauce
Steak Colorado- topped with red chile tomatilla sauce
Shrimp enchiladas- topped with lobster sauce
Spinach & Mushrooms- topped with verde sauce
$14.95 per guest (3 enchiladas)

Fajita Buffet:
•Chile Con Queso
•Mexican rice and charro beans
•Beef & Chicken fajitas- served over caramelized onions, poblano and red peppers. Accompanied by cheese, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, salsa and warm flour tortillas.
$16.95 per guest

There is a dessert buffet menu as well, but would cost an additional $3.00 per guest and I wasn't sure how many people would be interested. The menu allows to choose three from the following:

•Cinnamon Crusted Empanadas- warm apples folded in a crispy cinnamon sugar crust
•Texas Chocolate Cake- decadent chocolate cake with our homemade chocolate frosting and candied pecans
•Strawberry Tres Leches- Traditional Mexican cake soaked in three milks with strawberries and white chocolate
•Rollo De Canela- a cheesecake stuffed pastry shell rolled in cinnamon and brown sugar, lightly baked and drizzled with caramel sauce
•Iron Cheesecake- rich classic cheesecake

Okay- let me know what you think as soon as possible! And as soon as everything is confirmed, I'll be sure to post it so everyone knows where and when to meet for sure, exact cost and any other additional information needed!

So- other than that- WHO IS EXCITED ABOUT AUSTIN?!?!?!?!

holycowcreative -> RE: Church + Design + Lunch (6/22/2009 3:09:22 PM)

Just had 5 more from LifeChurch say they're in!

I think it's definitely safe to secure the mezzanine, now it's just a matter of how we want to work food. Let me know if you want me to contact the restaurant to secure everything.

Again THANK YOU, for running with this. I appreciate you.

Karen Nace -> RE: Church + Design + Lunch (6/22/2009 7:17:18 PM)

Hi there,
I hope it's not too late to join the lunch. I thought I'd try though! I actually work for a company that sells church supplies. But I'm really looking forward to this conference session!
Thanks!

Karen
